According to SaharaReporters , the commission obtained financial transaction information and witness testimonies connecting Mr. Obanikoro with a group of companies which received at least N1.45 billion to rig the two governorship elections last year.

The N1.45 billion was allegedly funneled into the accounts of five companies, all of which were under the control of Mr. Obanikoro. The evidence of these transactions emerged from EFCC interrogations of ten suspects connected with the $2.1 billion arms scandal involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Sambo Dasuki.

It would be recalled that SaharaReporters exclusively published an audio recording by whistle-blower Captain Sagir Koli last February revealing Mr. Obanikoro presiding over a meeting on the eve of the Ekiti election that was called to discuss how to ensure the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayo Fayose. In addition to both men at the meeting were the Osun State governorship candidate, Iyiola Omisore; the Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan; and Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh of the Nigerian Army.

The Nation newspaper said it was told by a source that massive amounts of money were moved from the Federal Government to an “ex-Minister” to rig the Ekiti and Osun State governor contests. SaharaReporters has confirmed that the former minister in reference is Mr. Obanikoro.

Mr. Obanikoro is currently thought to be hiding out in the United States. Source speaking with SaharaReporters correspondent disclosed that agents of the Department of State Security recently intercepted several calls between a panicky Mr. Obanikoro and the former Senate President, David Mark, in which the former Minister pleaded for assistance from Mr. Mark regarding his forthcoming legal problems.

The same sources said that Mr. Obanikoro fears extradition if he remains where he is hiding and is therefore trying to “eliminate” the prospects of legal proceedings against him in Nigeria.

One of the suspects interrogated by the EFCC is an official of the ONSA who confirmed that the funds were transferred to the five companies at the behest of a former Accountant-General.

According to SaharaReporters’ investigations, the companies controlled by Mr. Obanikoro which received the deposits included: Stellavera Dev Company (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N100m), Damaris Mode (N300m), Stellavera Dev Company (N200m), and Whese Farms Ltd (N250m).

Record breaker: Cech scored his 170th clean sheet against Bournemouth Petr Cech is a Premier League record holder after surpassing David James for the most clean sheets.

Arsenal's 2-0 win over Bournemouth saw the giant Czech stopper record his 170th blank - one more than the former England 'keeper. Cech actually has 174 clean sheets to his name, but four of them do not officially count towards the standings as he did not play the full 90 minutes.

It has taken Cech 352 appearances for Chelsea and Arsenal to reach 170 clean sheets, giving him the highest average clean sheet record since 1992 with 0.48.

"He can be very proud of that as it is a remarkable achievement," said Arsene Wenger. "He is gifted goalkeeper."

In keeping the clean sheet, he inspired Arsenal to the top of the Premier League after goals from Gabriel and Mesut Ozil secured the win.



Ozil provided the corner for Gabriel's headed opener in the 27th minute to register his 16th league assist of the season.

After at least three glorious passes which created chances for team-mates to score Arsenal's second, the German found the net himself as he tucked the ball home after a glorious one-two with Olivier Giroud.

At the halfway point of the season, Ozil is just four short of Thierry Henry's Premier League record of 20 assists in a campaign.

With Alexis Sanchez injured or slightly out of form for much of the season so far, Ozil has been the star of Arsenal's title challenge so far and is justifying the £42 million paid to sign him in 2013.

Premium Time Report, Scores of people were feared killed Monday when two female suicide bombers attacked a busy motor park in Madagali town of Adamawa State.


A witness, Danladi Buba, said the two female suicide bombers detonated bombs at a mini market near a motor park around 9am, killing many people. “About 30 people were killed with 16 others injured,” Mr. Buba said.

When contacted, the Brigade Commander of 28 Task Force Brigade, Mubi, Victor Ezugwu, confirmed the incident, saying the casualty figure was yet to be established. “Two female suicide bombers struck at a garage in Madagali and detonated their devices, and we lost some beloved country men,” Mr. Ezugwu, a brigadier-general, said.

He said the injured had been taken to hospital while the military had cordoned off the area. The brigade commander said the situation had been brought under control. The attack followed a series of gun and bomb attacks, between Sunday and Monday, by suspected Boko Haram militants on Maiduguri, the capital of neighbouring Borno State.

The National Christian Elders Forum, NCEF, has described as falsehood, the recent allegation of a
conspiracy between the Christian Association of
Nigeria, CAN , the Boko Haram sect and the military in the recent clash between soldiers and Muslim Shiites in Zaria. Scores of Shiites were killed a fortnight ago by soldiers who accused them of trying to kill the army chief, and later of incessantly blocking public roads. The Premium Report.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Solomon
Asemota, the forum described the allegation by
an analyst on Iran’s Press TV as sheer absurdity
aimed at igniting a conflict between Christians
and Shiite Muslims in Nigeria.

“The National Christian Elders Forum wishes to refute publicly and stridently that there is no iota
of truth in a video report credited to an Iranian
television station in which an Iranian lecturer
posited that a “triangle of evil” composing of the
Nigerian Army, Boko Haram, and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have combined to
destroy Shiites in Nigeria!”

“Apart from its sheer absurdity, this dangerous statement should not be dismissed because it is
calculated to beat the drums of war in far away Iran to mobilize Muslim Shiites to attack Nigerian
Christians”, the statement said.

The forum also noted that the country, and especially Christians have suffered tremendously in the hands of the Boko Haram terrorist group, which it says is made up of Sunni Muslims and added that all efforts must be geared towards avoiding a Shiite-based Islamic sect in the country.

It further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid any form of coalition with the Saudi Arabian Government against ISIS. It alleged that such a move would be considered a betrayal of trust to Nigerians and a dangerous signal of coalition against the Shiites in the country. “Nigeria is neither an Islamic nor an Arab nation”.

“The President promised Nigerians before his election that he is now a democrat and has no intention of imposing Sharia or any form of religious domination on the nation”.

“If Nigeria should participate in the Saudi Arabia
led coalition, it would be a negation of all that the
President promised before his election. Such a
denial would be a terrible betrayal of the trust
that Nigerians from all over the country reposed
in President Buhari”, the statement noted. The NCEF called on the president to maintain a neutral ground, on what it described as “international contentious issues.”

“If Nigeria should identify in any way with the Saudi Arabia led coalition, it would send provocative signal to Iran, the main backer of Shiites that Nigeria has aligned itself with Saudi Arabia (Sunni) to the detriment of the Shiites in Nigeria.

“It is imperative that Nigeria maintains its
neutral, non aligned status on internationally
contentious issues, whether it is politics,
ideologies, or religion”, the statement said.
The NCEF, in its statement also claimed that
religious tolerance has become the bane of
northern Nigeria and called on traditional,
political, religious, academic, as well as business
leaders of the region to swing into action to
reverse the trend.

“Lasting peace can only exist in an environment
where justice, equality, and fairness reign. Northern Nigeria has to imbibe the spirit and the letter of Section 38 (1) of the 1999 Constitution that guarantees freedom of religious belief”, the
statement noted.

The NCEF also expressed regret for the incessant loss of lives to various forms of violence, mostly in northern Nigeria.

Premium Time Report, at least 20 persons were killed in a fresh explosion in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Monday morning, as residents gathered around a mosque.

The explosion sounded as residents speculated that a fleeing Boko Haram bomber abandoned an improvised explosive device in the area during Sunday night’s attack on the city. 

A police officer, who informed PREMIUM TIMES of the incident, said the victims had gathered to investigate if a bomb was truly abandoned in the mosque.

“I have never seen such foolishness when people would go peeping into a mosque to find out if truly there was an explosive deposited in a place. But sadly, the bomb went off and over 20 persons were killed and many injured.” But the account of Malam Suleiman, a primary school teacher in the area, was slightly different.

“The people normally sit down around the mosque in the morning,” he said. ”The place is like a meeting point where neighbours converge to relax.”

“After the morning prayers they just sat down outside the mosque as usual and then the bomb went off. It was not suicide bombing like that of last night. It may have been planted. “Many people died but I can’t give actual figure of the casualties”.
