President Buhari, governors meet over economic crisis – The issue of Fulani herdsmen is also expected to be discussed during the meeting
President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in crucial meeting with the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states. The meeting inside the Council Chambers of the presidential villa in Abuja was started at exactly 2pm.
The majority of the state governors are in attendance while a few others were represented by their deputies. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, who is one of the main critics of the incumbent leader of the nation, is absent. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele are also in attendance.
President Buhari and other participants of the meeting are expected to discuss the economic crisis facing the country and the Fulani herdsmen attacks in parts of the country among other national issues. The president has yesterday met with the officials of the World Bank over a possible loan or credit facility in recent months. The country will have to borrow 1.8 trillion naira from abroad and at home to help fund the budget, which has been postponed byeconomy, the largest in Africa, grew by 2.8% last year, its slowest pace since 1999.

Businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has restated his commitment to assist the Federal Government in turning around the country’s economy. He spoke Lagos on Friday where he was honoured as “Man of the Year 2015’’ by The Guardian Newspapers Limited. Dangote said he was working hard with his company to take Nigeria to the next level and that within the next two and half years, Nigeria was going to excel in some critical areas. “We want to do that by looking at critical areas where Nigeria is not doing well in terms of local production and tackle the problem areas. “Number one is refinery, Dangote Group is building a refinery which will produce 650,000 barrels of petrol per day, the current capacity that we have as a country now, both the ones that are working and the ones not working, is just 450,000 barrels per day. “Our petrochemical is 10 times that of Eleme, we are at 1.3 million, Eleme is 120,000, so it will be the largest petrochemical industry in Africa. “In fertilizer production, we are not only trying to satisfy the market, but our size is three million tonnes which is 10 times more than what is available in Nigeria today. “We are trying to make sure we satisfy the local needs and also export and we thought about how to address our power issues, the only way we can address power issues is to have enough gas and sort out distribution. “Distribution is important because unless you collect money from the consumers, you cannot grow,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted Dangote as saying at the forum. Forty ships laden with petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected to arrive Apapa and Tin-Can Island Ports in Lagos from April 22 to May 8. NPA explained that the expected ships contained buck wheat, empty containers, bulk salt, bulk sugar, general cargoes, containers, ethanol, diesel, base oil, Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO) and petrol. The document noted that five ships had arrived the ports, waiting to berth with petrol. NAN reports that 17 other ships are at the ports discharging general cargoes, bulk gypsum, LPFO, diesel, containers, aviation fuel and petrol The Nation .

The National Identity Management Commission on Friday said there were no plans to replace voter cards issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission with the electronic national identification cards. The Head, Corporate Communications, NIMC, Chika Ogbonna, said that the reporter quoted the state coordinator out of context. Ogbonna said that the electronic ID card issued by the NIMC had a number of applets built into it, which made it capable and available for use in up to 13 use cases and scenarios. “But at no time during the advocacy visit by our Delta State team to the royal father did the state coordinator announce that the eID card would replace the voter’s card presently issued and used for elections by INEC,” he said. “The state coordinator did not grant any press briefing or interviews during the visit, neither was she at the palace to make any announcement concerning any elections,” Ogbonna said. He said the primary reason for the visit was to seek the support of the royal father in the renewed drive by the new NIMC Director-General, Aliyu Aziz, to increase the number of enrolment for the National Identification Number. “The visit was also to brief him on the collaboration between the NIMC and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to uniquely register and issue NIN to farmers in Delta State under the National Agricultural Payment Initiative,” he said. “The NIMC and INEC are both working harmoniously with other data-collecting agencies of government towards the aggregation of all citizens’ biometric data in order to achieve a single national database as directed recently by the President. the Punchonline.com Both commissions of government are in partnership now to that extent,”

The scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) on Monday continued to take a toll on motorists who had to stay in queues for hours at the few filling stations selling the product in Lagos and Ogun states. Our correspondent, however, gathered that loading at depots in Apapa had improved following the arrival of two more vessels, which conveyed about 50 million metric tonnes of petrol. In Lagos, many filling stations did not sell the product on Monday, while black marketers had a field day as they sold the product for as much as N300 per litre.
Some filling stations belonging to independent marketers in parts of Lagos and Ogun states also cashed in on the situation by raising the price of the product, as they sold it for between N140 and N180 per litre. A source, who is an official of an independent marketing outfit, told our correspondent in a telephone interview, “The level of loading is getting high and the third-party ex-depot price is reducing. It is N130 per litre today (Monday), from N140 to N150 in recent days. “Supply is getting better. There are new vessels. Alexia came in with about 24 million metric tonnes, and there is one other vessel, with about 25 million metric tonnes. Alexia came in on Saturday and it is still discharging. “We worked on Saturday and Sunday, and were able to load over 200 trucks; and today (Monday), we are still trucking out. In about two weeks’ time, the queues should have vanished if the supply is sustained.” He, however, said the marketers were still complaining that the dollars they were promised would be made available to them for product importation had not been given to them. The National Operation Controller, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Mike Osatuyi, said many of the members did not have petrol to sell. “The supply problem is still there. We expect that when more vessels arrive, the situation will improve. The NNPC needs to do more to boost the supply of the product. With the major marketers now making efforts to import, the queues are expected to disappear in the coming weeks,” he explained. The NNPC, had in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Mr. Garba-Deen Mohammed, assured Nigerians that it was doing all within its powers to make sure that the queues disappeared. The Punch.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he regrets not building the Manchester United gym overlooking the club's training ground at Carrington. The Old Trafford legend oversaw the move from The Cliff, United's previous training ground, to the state-of-the-art complex in Cheshire in 2000 but admitted that he realised he had made a mistake three years after the project was completed, following a visit to Barcelona. Speaking at the opening of Fleetwood Town's new Poolfoot Farm training ground, where Ferguson cut the ribbon on the League 1 side's new base, the former United boss indicated that he wished the gym at Carrington had been built overlooking the training pitches, to act as an incentive for injured players to get back to action. "One part I wish I'd done at United was that the gym is one floor up and you can see into the training ground," Ferguson said at Poolfoot Farm. "Three years after we'd built Carrington I went over to Barcelona and realised we'd made a mistake. Our gym at Carrington is enclosed. "Looking out at the training ground makes the players hungry to get out there. So when a player is coming back from injury he can see the pitches it's an incentive to get out there. Goal.com

The Nigeria Union in South Africa has urged the Federal Government to protect its citizens in that country, following another an attack on Nigerians in Cape Town. The President of the union, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, made the call in a telephone interview the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from Pretoria, South Africa, on Wednesday. Anyene told NAN that the attack took place at Du-Noon, a suburb of Cape Town on Monday. According to him, the union received reports that a demonstration by some South Africans over poor service delivery by their government, turned violent, degenerating to attacks on Nigerians and some other Africans, with their property being looted and destroyed. “During the protest, it turned violent; they started attacking homes and shops owned by foreigners. “Nigerians, Somalis and Kenyans were attacked and their homes and shops looted.” Anyene said that a Nigerian, Tunde Salami, sustained serious head injury and was hospitalised while others with minor injuries had been treated and discharged. He said that the property destroyed included building materials, cosmetics, saloon shops, cell phones and accessories, cooking utensils and foodstuffs. According to him, 33 Nigerian shops were affected in the violent protest. The president expressed sadness that the police who were said to have accompanied the protesters, failed to prevent them from looting and destroying property belonging to foreigners. He said that the union had reported the incident to the Nigerian Consulate and would soon visit Cape Town to assess the situation of things. Meanwhile, a source close to the Consulate, confirmed to NAN that the report had been received.

Femi Falana

The International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague has confirmed that it is considering petition submitted to it by human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN over alleged crimes against humanity committed in the context of the arms procurement scandal. The ICC revealed this in a letter dated 1 February 2016 with reference: OTP-CR-32/16 and signed by Mark P. Dillon, Head of Information & Evidence Unit of the ICC.

The letter reads in part: “The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court acknowledges receipt of your documents/letter. This communication has been duly entered in the Communications Register of the Office. We will give consideration to this communication, as appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.”

It would be recalled that Falana had in a petition dated 19 January 2016 requested the ICC to “investigate allegations of crimes against humanity committed against the Nigerian people by some former and serving military as well public officials and private persons who engaged in the criminal diversion of $8 billion earmarked to procure equipment for the armed forces to fight insurgency”

The petition reads in part: “On account of the deliberate refusal of the former military authorities to equip and motivate the members of the armed forces involved in combat operations the insurgents have killed about 25,000 soldiers and civilians including children and displaced over 2,000,000 people. Having compromised the security of the people of Nigeria by collaborating with the terrorists the former military authorities deliberately encouraged the brutal killing of innocent people including ill-equipped officers and soldiers.”

“During a visit to Borno state in 2014, former President Jonathan revealed to some selected leaders of the community that it was when Alhaji Modu Ali Sheriff caused the extra judicial killing of the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Mohammed Yusuf that the group declared war on the Nigerian people. Even though President Jonathan knew that Alhaji Sheriff was a major sponsor of the terrorist group the government did not charge him to court under the Terrorism Act applicable in Nigeria.”

“In order to divert the attention of the Nigerian people and the international community from the afore mentioned crimes against humanity, scores of soldiers were put on trial before courts-martial for demanding for equipment to fight the well-armed members of the Boko Haram sect. The military courts convicted the soldiers and sentenced them to various terms of imprisonment while 70 were sentenced to death. Over 3,000 others were dismissed from the Nigerian Army in similar circumstances.”

“Having investigated and confirmed that the said soldiers were sacrificed to cover up the criminal negligence of the former military authorities the current Army leadership has ordered the recall and reinstatement of the3,000 dismissed soldiers and commuted the death sentence of 66 out of 70 convicts on death row to 10 years' imprisonment.”

“The inquiry conducted by the Presidential Panel on arms procurement has established that the bulk of the sum of $2.1 billion and N643 billion ($4 billion) earmarked for the purchase of military hardware to fight terrorism was criminally diverted by the former government through the office of the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd). It has also been confirmed that the said Col. Dasuki colluded with some serving and retired military officers and civilians to divert the sum of $2 billion and N29 billion set aside for the procurement of fighter jets and other equipment for the Nigeria Air Force.”

“As if that was not enough, the sum of $322 million and £5.5 million from the Abacha loot which was illegally transferred to Col. Dasuki by a former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for prosecuting the war on terror has also been criminally diverted. Part of the stolen fund was used to fund the campaign for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 general elections.”

“Apart from diverting the fund for acquiring military equipment some corrupt public officers also stole money set aside for acquiring the necessary gadgets and equipment for securing the Nigerian people. For instance, the $470 million contract awarded in 2009 for the installation of CCTV cameras in Abuja, the seat of the federal government, was poorly executed due to corrupt practices. Thus, the

identification of terrorists who launched bomb attacks in public places in Abuja has been frustrated by the government officials who stole the contract sum.”

“Notwithstanding the deliberate refusal of the military authorities to purchase arms and armament due to the criminal diversion of the security fund, Col. Dasuki gave a lecture at Chartam House in London on February 8, 2015 where he claimed that Nigeria had acquired adequate equipment to prosecute the war on terror. At the time he was addressing his London audience Col Dasuki was well aware that the fund for procurement of weapons had been stolen by himself and his cohorts.”

“However, out of the fear that he could be made to account for his role in the diversion of the security fund the then Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Barde disclosed, while he was retiring from the service on July 30, 2015, that the armed forces led by him lacked the equipment to fight the terrorists. In his reaction to the disclosure Col. Dasuki stated sometime in August 2015 that the equipment ordered by the Jonathan Administration had not arrived the country!”

“It is submitted that the former public officials, serving and military officers as well as civilian collaborators who engaged in the criminal diversion of the security fund are liable to bear full responsibility for the death of about 25,000 people who were killed by the Boko Haram sect and the over 2,000,000 people displaced by the terrorist organisation.”

“Nigeria is a state party to the Rome Statute and deposited its instrument of ratification on 27 September 2001. The preamble to the 2003 United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), which Nigeria has also ratified states that corruption “is no longer a local matter but a transnational phenomenon that affects all societies and economies”.

“We strongly believe that allegations of corruption so far made against Col. Sambo Dasuki and other public officers have had catastrophic effects on the lives of over 25,000 Nigerian soldiers and civilians including children akin

to crimes against humanity as contemplated under the Rome Statute and within the jurisdiction of the Court. The Rome Statute in article 7 defines “crime against humanity” to include “inhumane acts causing great suffering or injury,” committed in a widespread or systematic manner against a civilian population.”

“Corrupt officials in the government know well that their conduct is criminal and injurious, and that their ostentatious lives, built on a radical breach of solemn trust, aggravate their crime against humanity. We believe that these allegations of widespread and systematic corruption amount to crimes against humanity and therefore clear violations of the provisions of the Rome Statute of International Criminal Court. These allegations have given rise to individual criminal responsibility of those suspected of perpetrating corruption, as entrenched in the Rome Statute.”

“We therefore submit that this is sufficient to hold Col Dasuki and others that have been indicted in the arms theft scandal responsible for crimes against humanity perpetrated against Nigerians. The failure of a former Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to prevent widespread and systematic corruption including the re-looting of the Abacha loot amounts to complicity under the Rome Statute, and therefore fits the legal requirements of a crime against humanity.” Falana then asked the ICC Prosecutor to:

1. Urgently commence an investigation proprio motu on the allegations of the criminal diversion of the security fund of $2.1 billion and N643 billion earmarked by suspected perpetrators, with a view to determining whether these amount to crimes against humanity within the Court’s jurisdiction. In this respect, I also urge you to invite representatives of the Nigerian government to provide written or oral testimony at the seat of the Court, so that the Prosecutor is able to conclude on the basis of available information whether there is a reasonable basis for an investigation, and to submit a request to the Pre-Trial Chamber for authorization of an investigation.

2. Bring to justice those suspected to bear full responsibility for deliberate under funding of the armed forces through widespread and systematic corruption in Nigeria; and Urge the Nigerian government to fulfil its obligations under the Rome Statute to cooperate with the ICC; including complying with your requests to arrest and surrender suspected perpetrators of the criminal diversion of security fund, testimony, and provide other support to the ICC.

Full Details of What Happened  Between  Davido, His Babymama, Sophie  Momodu and Her Uncle Dele Momodu!

Music star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido and his sister, Miss Ashely Coco Adeleke have been accused of child abduction.

According to a petition addressed to the Director General National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and seen by Naij.com, Davido is accused of “attempted child trafficking and abduction of Miss Aurora Imade Adeleke”.

A copy of the petition has also been sent to the President, Vice President, Lagos State Governor, the Inspector General of police, the director general of the DSS and the managing director of FAAN.

The petitioner, Miss. Sophia Ajibola Momodu claimed she was tricked to visit the house of Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke’s half sister – Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke’s with her baby, Imade Aurora
Adeleke on July 11, 2015.
“After getting to the house on Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, our client’s baby was forcefully taken from her and she was thrown out of the premises with the threat that she would be decisively dealt with if she ever bothered to return there. There were armed policemen in the premises and our client’s survival instinct prevailed on her to make her leave her Bosom  suckling baby behind, with so much pain in her heart,” the petition reads in part.

Yesterday, Tuesday, 29 December, Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke reportedly tried to travel to Dubai with the baby but was stopped by Mrs. Modupe Mofikoya, an immigration officer who attended to the Adeleke travelling party.

Ms Sophia said with the help of her family members, including Mr Dele Momodu, she determinedly resisted the attempt by Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, from taking her baby Aurora Imade Adeleke away from Lagos yesterday.
“Our client believes that the pair are trying to take the child to America and thus put her out of the reach of the biological mother. At the moment, Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and our client’s daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke are still in Lagos and two of their respective international passports are in the custody of the airport immigration services.
Our client’s fear now, is that Ashley Coco may use her Nigerian passport and Aurora Imade’s American passport to travel through other Nigerian or West African airports,” the petition added.

However, speaking with Naij's reporter, Kamal Ajiboye, Davido’s manager, denied the allegations raised in the petition.
“The baby was taken away from her due to induced drugs found in her (baby) system which she obviously got through the mother’s Bosom . David’s family is only helping her and the baby,” he said over the phone.

“David’s family prevented him (David) from reporting her to the NDLEA and as we speak, the baby was recently treated in Dubai. The baby cannot even breathe properly.
The family has done everything to take care of the mother and child. We rented an apartment for her and she gets three hundred thousand naira monthly as upkeep. What else will the family do? To be honest, no sane family will take a child away from the mother for no reason,” Kamal explained.

The Director General National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons
No. 2028 Delaba Street
Wuse Zone 5
FCT,
Abuja

Dear Madam,

PETITION AGAINST MISS ASHLEY COCO ADELEKE & MR ADEDEJI ADELEKE FOR ATTEMPTED CHILD TRAFFICKING AND ABDUCTION OF MISS AURORA IMADE ADELEKE

We act as Solicitors for Miss. Sophia Ajibola Momodu, (hereinafter referred to as our client) whose instructions we have to forward this petition to your esteemed Agency. Our client, a 27 year old, is the biological mother of a baby girl with name, Aurora Imade Adeleke, who was born on the 14th day of May 2015.

The baby’s father is Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke (aka Davido). The father and mother are unmarried. On the 11th July, 2015, our client was tricked to visit the house of Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke’s half sister – Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke’s with her baby, Imade Aurora Adeleke. After getting to the house on Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, our client’s baby was forcefully taken from her and she was thrown out of the premises with the threat that she would be decisively dealt with if she ever bothered to return there.

There were armed policemen in the premises and our client’s survival instinct prevailed on her to make her leave her Bosom  suckling baby behind, with so much pain in her heart.

By daybreak on the next day, our client was again at Ashley Coco Adeleke’s house to take her baby, but she was prevented by armed policemen from gaining access into the house.

She was again threatened and warned never to return for the child. Since July 2015, our client, who has now become so disorientated, saddened and confused has been going to family members, including her cousin, Mr Dele Momodu, and other well meaning Nigerians to intervene and allow her get her baby back or at least allow her to be able to have access to and care for her daughter. This was frustrated by Coco Adeleke, David Adeleke and their father, Mr. Adedeji Adeleke.

These people boasted to our client and all her family and friends that our client is a nonentity and of little substance in Nigeria. They also claim that they have the financial wherewithal and political and security clout to deal with her and her family anyhow and without any consequence with the aid of their brother and uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and other friends Mr Deji Adeleke purportedly has in government.

In a bid to justify their actions, Mr Deji Adeleke and his daughter, Ashley Coco Adeleke, have been spreading several malicious and unfounded allegations about our client. While the attempts at finding a peaceful and lasting solution were still ongoing, on Tuesday the 29th December 2015, Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, tried to travel to Dubai with our client’s baby.

The baby was meant to be flown out of the country with Nigerian and American passports. Prior to that date, our client and her cousin, Mr Dele Momodu, had gone to alert the immigration services at the Murtala Mohammed, Ikeja International airport of the likelihood of Ashley Coco Adeleke travelling with our client’s baby by pretending to be the Mother. Our client believes that her baby’s American passport was hidden and is now likely to be in possession of Mr Deji Adeleke or Ashley Coco Adeleke.

It appears that the assistance of Emirates Airline was sought as the baby’s American passport was not produced in breach of aviation regulations. Neither was a letter of authority from the mother to confirm her consent to the trip produced despite the airline being alerted. When Mrs. Modupe Mofikoya, the immigration officer who attended to the Adeleke travelling party accosted Ashley Coco Adeleke and asked for the mother of the baby, Ashley Adeleke claimed that she was the mother. Immediately, the immigration officer on duty collected her Nigerian international passport, she quickly absconded from the scene with the baby and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, showed up shortly afterwards to try to clear his daughter’s mess.

Our client with the help of her family members, including Mr Dele Momodu, determinedly resisted the attempt by Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and her father, Mr Deji Adeleke, from taking Aurora Imade Adeleke from Lagos yesterday. Our client believes that the pair are trying to take the child to America and thus put her out of the reach of the biological mother.

At the moment, Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke and our client’s daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke are still in Lagos and two of their respective international passports are in the custody of the airport immigration services. Our client’s fear now, is that Ashley Coco may use her Nigerian passport and Aurora Imade’s American passport to travel through other Nigerian or West African airports.

We know that the actions of Mr Deji Adeleke and Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke contravene many provisions of the law. One is Section 13 of the Childs Right Law 2007 of Lagos State (as adapted from the Federal Act), which guarantees Aurora Imade Adeleke’s right to parental care and protection.

That law also forbids separation of a child from her parents. Another is Section 24 of the same law, which also prohibits abduction of a child from the lawful custody of her parents. Neither Mr Deji Adeleke or Ms Ashley Coco Adeleke has any lawful right to the custody of Aurora Imade Adeleke.

Even the unmarried father, Mr David Adedeji Adeleke, only has limited rights to the child and certainly not to the exclusion of our client, the natural mother as the Adelekes are trying to do. We are of the sound view that your Agency is the most viable organisation that can intervene in the plight of our client and save her from the untold trauma that she is going through in the hands of Mr Deji Adeleke and Ashley Coco Adeleke, who has her own child that she keeps with her.

We have advised our client about the statutory powers of your Agency to potently investigate and enforce all the provisions of the law that deal with abduction and trafficking in persons. We urge you to use your good offices to intervene in the case of our client and protect a baby who should still be under her mother’s care from being abducted and smuggled abroad. We thank you.

Yours faithfully,
O. AJAYI & CO./Gbolaga Ajayi Esq.

That great year ironically also witnessed dwindling national economic fortunes.

The pillaging of the national treasury that began with the ancien regime was compounded by continued precipitous drop in oil prices. The undisputable evidence of this fall is that a barrel of oil which went for $140 in 2013 sold for $31.71 yesterday. There are even unsavoury prognosis that before long it might drop below $20.

The effect of this sharp reduction is that the distributable pool of the Federation Accounts that hit a zenith of N1.2 trillion in 2012 dropped to a new low of N369 billion in November allocations shared in December 2015.

The stark implication of this for the Nigeria governments at the federal, states and local levels is that revenue derivable from the Federation Accounts, as the basis for running government, has been reduced to little or nothing.

It means for us that the era of unearned revenue has come to an end. We are now entering into a new and special period where it is imperative for us to work for our own money before we can spend it. This period demands innovation, creativity,
productivity, industry and wealth creation.

I am therefore asking of you all, that whatever your vocation may be, you must work harder, be innovative and double your productivity from now on.

What ever your estate: traders, farmers, civil servants, artisans, transporters, workers, corporate executives and the self-employed, you need to do more than before.

Productivity is the key to tiding over and making the best of the special time we are in. It requires of especially the youth and school leavers to embrace the philosophy of hard work and innovation. This means finding engagement in farming and skill acquisition, instead of relying on general academic qualification in order to take advantage of this special period. No one must be idle again.

Every challenge brings its own opportunities. Fresh opportunities are waiting to be tapped in this special time. It only requires that we reach into our natural God-given ingenuity and endowments.

For us, we are already working in the areas of agriculture, solid mineral development, tourism and manufacturing.

Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. The history of development has taught us that humans are the primal agent of development.

Development begins with thinking and coming up with ideas; only humans do that. These ideas are given life with their incorporation into policies which are then implemented to form an unending cycle of enterprise and wealth creation.

Development in machinery and robotics notwithstanding, humans still drive work and put even machines and animals to any endeavour.

Humans also form markets. Where there are humans, there is something to be sold, a service to be rendered and a money to be made, of course legitimately. We only need an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect and tolerance, even if we lawfully compete against each other. As long as we remain a people, united and resourceful, no force on earth can halt our march of greatness.

ORTOM TO EMBARK ON NEW HOUSING SCHEME FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

The Benue State Government has concluded plans to embark on owner occupier housing scheme for civil servants in the state this year.

Governor Samuel Ortom who made this known while
presenting the 2016 appropriation budget to the state House of Assembly said the gesture was to ensure that many civil servants own their own houses before retirement from service.

“Ownership of a house by a civil servant prepares him or her for retirement better than when he or she retires and starts looking for an apartment to rent and stay with the family.”

Ortom who disclosed further that the housing scheme would be built using mortgage financing stated further that his administration would embark on pension reforms in a bid to finding a lasting solution to the protracted problem of pension in the state.

The governor, who disclosed that the state now owed retirees at both the state and local government levels huge amount of pension arrears, said the national pension law would be domesticated in the state.

He informed further that a pension reform committee would be set up in the state to advise government on how to quickly clear the huge pension and gratuity arrears.

“Our goal is to put in place a very sustainable pension policy. A good pension policy allows civil servants access to their pensions as soon as they retire from service,” the Governor
said.

Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka
“I am not a sycophant, but I want to tell you that so far God is happy and he who God has blessed none can curse. Many people are planning to kill Buhari – there are many plans on how to eliminate his life so that corruption will continue, so that embezzlement will continue.
