President Buhari First Presidential Media Chat, Anchor by Kayode Akintemi from Channels TV

Buhari: "We are doing well tackling corruption under the circumstances we found ourselves."

Buhari: "Those accused of corruption are not guilty until proved otherwise There terrible cases of corruption and we can only appeal to Nigerians to be patient, we cannot tell the court what to do once we go to court we should keep our mouth shut because we cannot determine for the court."

This is not the time to cast aspersions but time for everyone to join efforts to fight this war.

The former Minister of Aviation and Director of Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan campaign team, during the 2015 general election, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Wednesday morning spoke on Channels TV Programme Sunrise Daily via Skype from their Abuja studio.

Leicester City missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League as they played out a goalless draw with Manchester City at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester and Manchester City both had chances in an entertaining encounter, with goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart excelling with a succession of saves.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri: "I think we made a very good match. It was difficult. We played well, we created some chances. I wanted to see how my players responded after the Liverpool defeat and they responded well.

"Every match is difficult for us. This league is very
crazy...nobody wants to win the league. It's very strange. We're the basement and the other teams are a villa with a swimming pool. It's not easy for us but we want to fight with everybody. It's a miracle what we're doing." "All big clubs most stay far away from us, we know that where we're is not our position but we like to stay there".

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "I think we did more than Leicester to win the game. We had more possession, more attempts, more options but it was a tough game against a tough team playing away. This is a crucial period. I think at the end of January we will know exactly what position we are in. "

Speaking to newsmen Tuesday, Dr Gumi said that ‘’the Shi’ites have been embarking on military training and producing cadets and soldiers.’’ The Islamic cleric further alleged that they were ‘’operating a state within a state.’’

According to Sheik Gumi, ‘’The Islamic Movement of Nigeria does not recognise the corporate entity of Nigeria. The group is not registered. They operate above the law and they get direct foreign aid,’’ he further alleged.

He stated further that, former President Umaru Yar’adua had told him of the massive importation of ammunitions and weapons to different parts of the country, adding that the president had mentioned Iran as supplying arms to the Shiites.

said that the recent clash between Shiites and soldiers was ‘’a divine intervention to prevent us from a catastrophe like that of Boko Haram. It came sudden and powerful to eradicate and uproot any plan that they must have been having to harm the society.’’

Gumi said that he had written Zakzaky about a year ago, warning him about the dangers of blocking roads during the annual Ar’baeen trek, where his follower travelled on foot from all over the country to Zaria. He said that blocking road is an abomination in Islam.

The scholar warned that the north will continue to be under-developed if the twin evils of shia and Boko Haram are not eradicated, adding that ‘’the strife and unnecessary blocking of roads and shouting slogans on the way increases the tension in the north.’’

The Nigerian Communications Commission has urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss or decline hearing in the suit filed by MTN Nigeria Communications Limited to challenge the N1.04trn fine imposed on it by the commission.

NCC had imposed the N1.04trn fine on MTN for its failure to disconnect its unregistered subscribers in line with the commission’s directive.

But not pleased with the sanction, the communications company had through its legal team, comprising seven Senior Advocates of Nigeria, approached a Federal High Court in Lagos seeking an order quashing the fine.

MTN had urged the court to determine whether NCC could act pursuant to Section 70 of the NCC Act to impose a fine on it without breaching the provisions of sections 1 (3), 4 and 6 of the 1999 Constitution.

The telecommunications company claimed that NCC violated it's fundamental right to fair hearing, adding that by imposing the fine, NCC was already usurping “the exclusive legislative powers of the National Assembly, as well as the judicial powers of the courts established under the Constitution.”

Governor Ambode, who spoke while flagging off the ‘One Lagos Fiesta’ at the Agege Stadium, said the programme was in fulfillment of his campaign promise, as well as
improving on what he met on ground.

The ‘One Lagos Fiesta’, an initiative of the present
administration, tailored towards ushering in the New Year, is scheduled to hold between December 27 and January 1, 2016 simultaneously in five locations across the state, including Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Agege and Lagos Island. “We promised that we are going to bring governance to the communities; we promised to run a government of inclusion where all of you will be included in everything that we will be doing in Lagos State.

“That is why we are here to say that ‘One Lagos Fiesta’ is about all of you and it is about the rest of Lagos. We want every youth and every parent to enjoy what others have been enjoying in the nook and crannies of the state.

“That is why we have decided to have a five-day
programme that will be done in Badagry, Agege, Epe, Ikorodu and Lagos Island. This is the first place I’m visiting and that means you mean a lot to me,” Governor Ambode said.

He added that his administration was working hard to make Lagos work for all, just as he assured that good things would start happening in Agege, and indeed in the whole of Lagos going forward.

According to SaharaReporters , the commission obtained financial transaction information and witness testimonies connecting Mr. Obanikoro with a group of companies which received at least N1.45 billion to rig the two governorship elections last year.

The N1.45 billion was allegedly funneled into the accounts of five companies, all of which were under the control of Mr. Obanikoro. The evidence of these transactions emerged from EFCC interrogations of ten suspects connected with the $2.1 billion arms scandal involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Sambo Dasuki.

It would be recalled that SaharaReporters exclusively published an audio recording by whistle-blower Captain Sagir Koli last February revealing Mr. Obanikoro presiding over a meeting on the eve of the Ekiti election that was called to discuss how to ensure the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayo Fayose. In addition to both men at the meeting were the Osun State governorship candidate, Iyiola Omisore; the Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan; and Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh of the Nigerian Army.

The Nation newspaper said it was told by a source that massive amounts of money were moved from the Federal Government to an “ex-Minister” to rig the Ekiti and Osun State governor contests. SaharaReporters has confirmed that the former minister in reference is Mr. Obanikoro.

Mr. Obanikoro is currently thought to be hiding out in the United States. Source speaking with SaharaReporters correspondent disclosed that agents of the Department of State Security recently intercepted several calls between a panicky Mr. Obanikoro and the former Senate President, David Mark, in which the former Minister pleaded for assistance from Mr. Mark regarding his forthcoming legal problems.

The same sources said that Mr. Obanikoro fears extradition if he remains where he is hiding and is therefore trying to “eliminate” the prospects of legal proceedings against him in Nigeria.

One of the suspects interrogated by the EFCC is an official of the ONSA who confirmed that the funds were transferred to the five companies at the behest of a former Accountant-General.

According to SaharaReporters’ investigations, the companies controlled by Mr. Obanikoro which received the deposits included: Stellavera Dev Company (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N300m), First Aralac Global Limited (N100m), Damaris Mode (N300m), Stellavera Dev Company (N200m), and Whese Farms Ltd (N250m).

Record breaker: Cech scored his 170th clean sheet against Bournemouth Petr Cech is a Premier League record holder after surpassing David James for the most clean sheets.

Arsenal's 2-0 win over Bournemouth saw the giant Czech stopper record his 170th blank - one more than the former England 'keeper. Cech actually has 174 clean sheets to his name, but four of them do not officially count towards the standings as he did not play the full 90 minutes.

It has taken Cech 352 appearances for Chelsea and Arsenal to reach 170 clean sheets, giving him the highest average clean sheet record since 1992 with 0.48.

"He can be very proud of that as it is a remarkable achievement," said Arsene Wenger. "He is gifted goalkeeper."

Congratulations @PetrCech Premier League clean sheet record holder. Plenty more to come! What a guy!
— David James (@jamosfoundation) December 28, 2015

In keeping the clean sheet, he inspired Arsenal to the top of the Premier League after goals from Gabriel and Mesut Ozil secured the win.

Ozil provided the corner for Gabriel's headed opener in the 27th minute to register his 16th league assist of the season.

After at least three glorious passes which created chances for team-mates to score Arsenal's second, the German found the net himself as he tucked the ball home after a glorious one-two with Olivier Giroud.

At the halfway point of the season, Ozil is just four short of Thierry Henry's Premier League record of 20 assists in a campaign.

With Alexis Sanchez injured or slightly out of form for much of the season so far, Ozil has been the star of Arsenal's title challenge so far and is justifying the £42 million paid to sign him in 2013.

Premium Time Report, Scores of people were feared killed Monday when two female suicide bombers attacked a busy motor park in Madagali town of Adamawa State.

A witness, Danladi Buba, said the two female suicide bombers detonated bombs at a mini market near a motor park around 9am, killing many people. “About 30 people were killed with 16 others injured,” Mr. Buba said.

When contacted, the Brigade Commander of 28 Task Force Brigade, Mubi, Victor Ezugwu, confirmed the incident, saying the casualty figure was yet to be established. “Two female suicide bombers struck at a garage in Madagali and detonated their devices, and we lost some beloved country men,” Mr. Ezugwu, a brigadier-general, said.

He said the injured had been taken to hospital while the military had cordoned off the area. The brigade commander said the situation had been brought under control. The attack followed a series of gun and bomb attacks, between Sunday and Monday, by suspected Boko Haram militants on Maiduguri, the capital of neighbouring Borno State.

The National Christian Elders Forum, NCEF, has described as falsehood, the recent allegation of a
conspiracy between the Christian Association of
Nigeria, CAN , the Boko Haram sect and the military in the recent clash between soldiers and Muslim Shiites in Zaria. Scores of Shiites were killed a fortnight ago by soldiers who accused them of trying to kill the army chief, and later of incessantly blocking public roads. The Premium Report.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Solomon
Asemota, the forum described the allegation by
an analyst on Iran’s Press TV as sheer absurdity
aimed at igniting a conflict between Christians
and Shiite Muslims in Nigeria.

“The National Christian Elders Forum wishes to refute publicly and stridently that there is no iota
of truth in a video report credited to an Iranian
television station in which an Iranian lecturer
posited that a “triangle of evil” composing of the
Nigerian Army, Boko Haram, and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have combined to
destroy Shiites in Nigeria!”

“Apart from its sheer absurdity, this dangerous statement should not be dismissed because it is
calculated to beat the drums of war in far away Iran to mobilize Muslim Shiites to attack Nigerian
Christians”, the statement said.

The forum also noted that the country, and especially Christians have suffered tremendously in the hands of the Boko Haram terrorist group, which it says is made up of Sunni Muslims and added that all efforts must be geared towards avoiding a Shiite-based Islamic sect in the country.

It further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid any form of coalition with the Saudi Arabian Government against ISIS. It alleged that such a move would be considered a betrayal of trust to Nigerians and a dangerous signal of coalition against the Shiites in the country. “Nigeria is neither an Islamic nor an Arab nation”.

“The President promised Nigerians before his election that he is now a democrat and has no intention of imposing Sharia or any form of religious domination on the nation”.

“If Nigeria should participate in the Saudi Arabia
led coalition, it would be a negation of all that the
President promised before his election. Such a
denial would be a terrible betrayal of the trust
that Nigerians from all over the country reposed
in President Buhari”, the statement noted. The NCEF called on the president to maintain a neutral ground, on what it described as “international contentious issues.”

“If Nigeria should identify in any way with the Saudi Arabia led coalition, it would send provocative signal to Iran, the main backer of Shiites that Nigeria has aligned itself with Saudi Arabia (Sunni) to the detriment of the Shiites in Nigeria.

“It is imperative that Nigeria maintains its
neutral, non aligned status on internationally
contentious issues, whether it is politics,
ideologies, or religion”, the statement said.
The NCEF, in its statement also claimed that
religious tolerance has become the bane of
northern Nigeria and called on traditional,
political, religious, academic, as well as business
leaders of the region to swing into action to
reverse the trend.

“Lasting peace can only exist in an environment
where justice, equality, and fairness reign. Northern Nigeria has to imbibe the spirit and the letter of Section 38 (1) of the 1999 Constitution that guarantees freedom of religious belief”, the
statement noted.

The NCEF also expressed regret for the incessant loss of lives to various forms of violence, mostly in northern Nigeria.

Premium Time Report, at least 20 persons were killed in a fresh explosion in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, Monday morning, as residents gathered around a mosque.

The explosion sounded as residents speculated that a fleeing Boko Haram bomber abandoned an improvised explosive device in the area during Sunday night’s attack on the city.

A police officer, who informed PREMIUM TIMES of the incident, said the victims had gathered to investigate if a bomb was truly abandoned in the mosque.

“I have never seen such foolishness when people would go peeping into a mosque to find out if truly there was an explosive deposited in a place. But sadly, the bomb went off and over 20 persons were killed and many injured.” But the account of Malam Suleiman, a primary school teacher in the area, was slightly different.

“The people normally sit down around the mosque in the morning,” he said. ”The place is like a meeting point where neighbours converge to relax.”

“After the morning prayers they just sat down outside the mosque as usual and then the bomb went off. It was not suicide bombing like that of last night. It may have been planted. “Many people died but I can’t give actual figure of the casualties”.

Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, Sunday night came under attack by Boko Haram gunmen who were repelled by soldiers of the Nigeria Army, even as two female suicide bombers succeeded in detonating themselves and killing many in another part of the city. Leadership Report.

The attack, which many described as a desperate show to relevance on the part of the insurgents, was coming days after the Nigerian government had declared the insurgents defeated and incapacitated to stage any major offensive.

Sources in Maiduguri informed Leadership that the attackers attempted to invade the city through a village called Aladuwari, about 2km south of the Maiduguri, but we're effectively repelled by soldiers of the 7 Division Nigeria Army.

But it seemed the Aladuwari attack was to create some kind of detour by the insurgents to enable two female suicide bombers invade the city from another flank.

The two female suicide bombers invaded the city and detonated themselves at a crowded mini commercial area. Muhammed Abubakar, a Vigilante operative who lives in Suleimanti area of Maiduguri said the bombers detonated themselves near FOMWAN primary school located between Suleimanti and Jiddari Polo.

“As I am talking to you now we are all running for our lives because there is shooting everywhere and corpses and injured persons from the blast were all lying on the ground”, sadi Abubakar.

“They were two explosions: one coming immediately after the other. Those who saw them said they were two women who began to scream as the bombs were about to go off”.

Spokesman of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Abbas Gava, had earlier informed Leadership that the gunmen were making attempt to invade Maiduguri but were intercepted at Aladuwari village where they exchanged fire with soldiers.

“They came in five Hilux vans all armed and ready to invade Maiduguri, but soldiers tackled them effectively and repelled all attacks; but it seems some of them had fled towards Jiddari area. The attack is so close that residents have fled their homes while those far away have all retired to their houses”.

Leadership Report, Three wives of a Village Head and their 10 children were on Sunday feared killed as a female suicide bomber attacked their home in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, witnesses said.

The woman who took advantaged of the chaotic situation when soldiers of the Nigeria Army were busy engaging Boko Haram fighters in a shootout during a repelled attack on the city, pretended Boko Haram was chasing her, as she ran into the compound of one Bulama Isa, a Village Head.

“She ran into Bulama Isa’s compound shouting ‘Boko Haram, Boko Harma’”, said Ahmed Bala, a resident of Maiduguri.

“When the families of Isa all came out of their rooms to meet the woman in the center of their compound, the woman simply detonated the bomb she had under her garment killing the man his three wives and ten children”, said Bala.

Bulama Isa who had not returned home yet at the time his home came under attack managed to survive another suicide attack at the entrance of his home.

Sources said another female suicide who was lurking in the dark as the grief struck head of the family walked into his attacked compound, jumped out and detonated herself: but the village head was lucky again. He was able to escape with minor injury, but the blast had succeeded in killing a woman with her baby.

According Premium Time, Two Islamic organisations were offered $3million by the past administration to secure their members support the re-election of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, an official has said.

Abdullahi Shuaib, the Coordinator of the Conference of Islamic Organisations, CIO, stated this on Saturday at the 22nd National Islamic Training Programme NITP, held at Odosengolu near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

Mr. Shuaib said the CIO and The Muslim
Congress, TMC, rejected the money after they
were offered under the label of “religious fund.”
“It is not a secret, they came, offering us over $3
million,” he said. “We said no….It came through
their proxies to us and we said no. And today we
have been vindicated.”

Mr. Shuaib, who is also the Executive Director/
CEO, Zakat and Sadaqat foundation, an arm of
TMC, added that “it is not even part of our own
culture to take bribe. We prefer to go hungry
than to collect a bribe from somebody and then
eat what is unlawful”.

According to Premium Time, A former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Sunday advised Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State against building N17 billion airport in Lafia. He said that instead of building the airport, the governor should provide other infrastructure that would spread across the state.

Mr. Maku, a 2015 gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state, gave the advice while speaking with journalists in his country home in Wakama, Akun Development Area.

He said this amount could be used to provide other infrastructure for the people to provide them job opportunities, fight poverty and boost their living standard. “What Lafia needs is an airstrip, where aircraft can land in case some very important personalities may visit the state for one reason or
the other.

“For Al-Makura to build N17 billion airport in Kwandare, his village, is not the priority of the people of the state for now. “The money can be used to establish factories, industries, construct rural roads, provide potable water and electricity to the rural populace.

“There is a high rate of poverty among the people, especially at the grassroots, a problem that has been compounded by lack of access roads, electricity and drinkable water,” he said He called on the Federal Government and the aviation authority to reverse the construction of an airport in Lafia at this time of economic hardship.

The former information minister also urge Nigerians to use the Yuletide to continue to pray for peaceful coexistence in the nation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 20 shops were completely razed by the inferno which lasted several hours. NAN gathered that some shop owners left huge sums of money in their shops when the incident occurred.

Sources said that the inferno was triggered by a spark from an electric cable in one of the shops when electricity was restored. Some night guards at the market were said to have noticed smoke billowing from one of the affected shops and drew the attention of leadership of the market to it.

They alerted fire fighters who came to the
scene and prevented the fire from spreading
to other shops. The chairman of Ilorin West Local Government Council, Alhaji Tajudeen Zulu-Oloje, visited the scene of the incident on Sunday.

He said that he received a distress call from one of the market officials around 2.00 am Sunday on the fire outbreak. He said the local council would do its best to reconstruct the burnt shops and assist affected traders.

Zulu-Oloje commended men of the state fire service for the quick response. Efforts to speak to the Special Adviser on Emergency and Relief to State Governor Alhaji Duro Mohammed, on the incident proved
futile. (NAN)

The president gave the explanation in an
interview with Mansur Liman of the BBC Hausa
service on Christmas eve. He also spoke on his
government’s ‘success’ at defeating the Boko
Haram insurgents.

PREMIUM TIMES’ Sani Tukur translated the interview;

Q : You recently submitted the biggest budget
estimates in Nigeria’s history to the National
Assembly, and this came at a time the price of oil
has drastically gone down in world markets. How
do you intend to get money to fund the budget?
Buhari: As a government, we inherited N1.5
trillion domestic debt and when foreign debt is
added we have about N2.2 trillion. Everybody
knows Nigeria is not a poor country, we are rich, and we have human resources, the problem had
been that leadership did not take seriously,
curbing corrupt tendencies.

Apart from highlighting our debt profile, we have
also shown the changes we have made in the
Customs for instance, how; much we are making
from the Customs service, how much from
petroleum, that is NNPC; how much we are
making from the ports. There have been lots of
leakages in these sectors. If we block these leakages, we would make much more money run the country despite the fall in the price of oil.

Q : Are you sure you can block all the leakages?
Because if one looks at it, it was just the leaders
of these agencies that were changed while most of
the lieutenants who were part of the system of
the “leakages” are still in place. What do you
think would change to make sure that “business
as usual” does not continue and Nigeria would
get those monies?

A : It is generally believed that a fish begins to rot
from the head; once the head is rotten, the whole
body is also rotten. We have tried to remove all
the heads of the organisations, and most of the
lieutenants have been changed. A lot is
happening in this government that people do not
appear to understand; many permanent
secretaries of ministries have been changed; we
used to have 42 ministers, now we have 36
because the constitution requires that each state of the federation must have a minister; we used
to have 42 ministries, now we have 24.

Q : You have also allocated 30 per cent of the
budget to capital projects; what informed that
decision?

A : It is a must. Remember during the campaigns,
we said Nigeria is facing three things and nobody
disputed that assertion. Firstly; there was
widespread insecurity, war in the north east,
while the country’s oil was being stolen at random in the south; secondly; there is massive
unemployment, 62 per cent of the nation’s
population are youth from the age of 35 years
downward; most of them are unemployed,
including those who went to school and those
who did not, that is a serious problem. Therefore,
it has become necessary to restore peace and
create employment.

That is why we are returning to agriculture and
mineral resources. Thirdly, bribery and corruption was basically suffocating the country.
If we don’t kill these monsters, this country
would go down.

That is why those who stole monies meant for
arms procurement and shared it among
themselves are being arrested and are being
shown documents, so that they would be asked to
refund the money or face prosecution; we would
use those documents to prove what they stole,
collect all the assets acquired from the proceeds and then jail them.

Q : You have initiated a programme in which poor
and vulnerable Nigerians would be paid N5,000
monthly; what have you put in place to ensure
that there is justice and fairness in the running of
this programme?

A : It is not possible for everyone needing it to get
it; but the Federal Government has said it would
collaborate with the states and local governments.
At the local government level, almost everyone knows each other. It would be easy to identify
those to give who would go into trading and how
to get it back. It would be like a cooperative and
we all know how it operates. Also, state
governments would identify those who have
capacity to employ more people and all we need
to do is to empower them. Our people already
know how to go about implementing these
modalities to create employment for the citizens.

Q : You earlier mentioned Boko Haram. After your assumption of office, you gave a deadline of December to bring an end to Boko Haram
insurgency. We are almost at the end of
December, does it mean you and the armed
forces have failed?

A : I want people to understand that after I settled
down and got good grasp of what the country is
going through, we removed all the service chiefs
and appointed new ones. We also undertook an
investigation and found out how the monies
meant for arms procurement were diverted and
shared by officials in the last administration.
They sent the boys to the war front without arms
and ammunition, leading some of them to mutiny
after which they were arrested and detained.
We have been able to raise money and fund the
war. Go and ask the people of Borno, Yobe and
Adamawa; how many of their local governments
were under the control of insurgents? And how
many are currently still under the insurgents?

May be we would not win the war completely by
the end of the month, but the insurgents have
now resorted to putting on explosive vests on
young children, mostly girls aged 15 and below
and then sending them to markets, mosques and
churches to detonate. Boko Haram themselves
know that the era of them taking over
communities and local governments are over.  If people would be fair to us, they would know that
the Nigerian Army has basically met the deadline
and are winning the war. You cannot find any
significant number of Boko Haram members in
Adamawa, and Yobe, only may be in about three
local governments of Borno in the area around
our borders with Chad Republic. They are not in
a position to threaten Nigeria now, so we have
won.
