Despite the claim by FG that "the war against Boko Haram is largely won." At least 11 people were killed and dozens injured on Friday when insurgents belonging to Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, invaded Kimba, a pastoral community in Borno State.

According to The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said on Wednesday that the Nigerian military had met the December deadline to defeat the Boko Haram terrorists. “Today, I can report that the war against Boko Haram is largely won.“ I can confidently say this because just recently, I led a group of 33 journalists from both the local and international media to the hot bed of the insurgency, that is, Maiduguri, Kondugua, Kaoure and Bama. “Today, I can report to you that the entire 70 plus kilometres stretch from Maiduguri to Bama and all the way to Banki which leads to Cameroun and the Central African Republic are in the hands of our gallant troops.”

He said the military presence could be felt” every few metres along the road; at a point along that road we were just a kilometre to Sambisa forest. “They have so degraded the capacity of Boko Haram that the terrorists can no longer hold on to any territory just as they can no longer carry out any spectacular attack.”

According to SaharaReporters: Two members of a local vigilante group in the besieged community told SaharaReporters that the Islamist fighters rode into the town on bicycles since Kimba, which is in Biu local government area, is remote.

He said the attackers sneaked into the town at dusk, and began their killing spree. He disclosed that the insurgents also burnt most of the homes in the town.
“They killed 11 people and injured many more people and set the whole village ablaze,” said Mohammed Aliyu, a vigilante member.

According to another member of the vigilante group, Isa Biu, “The attackers rode on bicycles to invade Kimba. They had guns and they just opened fire on villagers.” Kimba is about to 22 miles from Biu town, the biggest town in the southern part of Borno State. SaharaReporters was unable to reach a military source to confirm the attack and the casualty figures as well as extent of  damages.

According to Dailypost the insurgents killed 13 people and abducted eight others, at about 8:30 pm which was said to be the sixth attack in the area recently.

Umar Sani, a resident who spoke to Dailypost on the phone said: “They burnt down our houses, killed our brothers and abducted our children. We are close to Sabon Gari and there are military there at Sabon Gari but they could not come to our rescue. Many people have been wounded. About 17 are currently being treated in Biu. We have lost 13 people and they took eight with them.”
